Day 1

Overview

Bike + Fair Trekking (L/D)

Get sized up at our Tiger Trail bike shop on one of our quality mountain bikes and head out of town to the Mekong River. After crossing the old French/communist bridge (commonly called "The Old Bridge"), make a stop to visit Xieng Lek Village, famous for its mulberry paper and weaving. Next, turn up the Nam Xuang River going past villages and beautiful countryside scenery. The pavement ends and it’s then off-road into the countryside up and down hills past rice paddies and local villages.

We'll ride through vast rice paddies and jungle dotted with Lao Leum, Hmong, and Khmu villages with locals tending to the daily activities of Lao rural life.

Finish the day with a trek through the Lao jungle. The “Fair Trek” Project area is home to communities that directly profit from your visit. Your homestay in the foothills of a large mountain gives you a unique firsthand chance to know the culture and traditions of the Khamu people.

Day 2

Overview

Trek + Kayak (B/L)

After breakfast and farewells, set off hiking out of the mountains an hour and a half to the riverbank and Xieng Lom Village.

On the Nam Khan River take a boat up to the Tad Sae waterfall.  The waterfall varies widely through the high water season from an impressive roar of water when rains come to crystal clear turquoise water once the rain has subsided.  Swim, explore and reenergize with lunch at the falls.  After safety and equipment check, we'll kayak down the Nam Khan River from Ban Houy Yeng to Gang Noon passing jungle, elephant camps, villages and agricultural land.

Paddle downriver 3-4 hrs with several sections of rapids fun for everyone. Conclude the tour with a transfer return to Luang Prabang.

  • Low water season, November to July:

During the low water season, we take you on an extended biking route on day 1 being approximately 19 Km instead of 15Km and taking you on dirt paths and hills through villages with a river crossing by boat.  We’ll hike directly to the homestay village on day one.

On day two we visit the Tad Sae Waterfall area in route, but keep in mind that during the dry season, water levels can be quite low. There are elephants on site which you may view.

As water flow is slower, we enjoy a shorter kayaking distance of 11 Km to Geang Noun lasting about 2.5 hours depending on conditions, and visit Henri Mahout's grave en route.
